These are some of our lately featured Restaurants and/or Bars in Los Cabos.

Caprese Salad - La DolceLa Dolce San Jose is one of those restaurants that just feel good. It is located on the main square near the church in downtown San Jose. The building was, at one time, a house and now over a hundred years later still has some of that character showing through with its wood beamed high ceilings and exposed brick walls. The main bar area has six or seven tables which look out onto the square with the rest of the seating on the back patio. The back patio is great for groups as the tables can be pulled together.

La Dolce is not one of those fancy-smancy Italian restaurants that require attitude and intimate knowledge of truffle types. Instead La Dolce offers up appetizers, soups, salads, wood oven pizzas, pasta, with a few meats and fishes to balance out the choices.

For appetizers we had the Caesar Salad, crisp whole leaves of romaine, shaved Parmesan, capers and croutons, with a zesty dressing. You really need to order the Funghi Trifolati, sautéed mushrooms, garlic, red pepper and white wine when you go. All the thin crust pizzas are baked in a wood-fired oven, which is in the back patio area. I regularly order their pizzas to go. My two favorites are the Gregorio - chicken, mushrooms, arugula, pine nuts and the Quatro Stagioni - cooked ham, mushrooms, olives and anchovies. There are at least seventeen other pizzas to try.

The pastas at La Dolce are where the menu starts to hum. A couple of must-haves would be Fettuccine Gorgonzola e Funghi - gorgonzola, mushrooms, parmesan and cream or Spaghetti alla Puntanesca - tomato sauce with mushrooms, olives and capers. What neither of those gets you dancing? Now worries there are 16 other pastas and sauces to choose from.

The wine list is not extensive by any means but you’ll find something you like. If not, a cold, cold Pacifico beer is always a good option.

There are dessert choices but you’ll need to go there to find out what they are, as I only want to recommend one dessert…Tiramisu - lady fingers, mascarpone cheese, amaretto and coffee all layered into a heap of mind blowing wow-why-have-I-never-had-this-before revelation. It’s religion as a dessert. Eat up!

It started with an Eric Clapton guitar (a Fender Lead II, for the gearheads in the audience). The beginning of something that nobody even knew was beginning.

It was just a goof. A laugh. A joke among friends.

Back in the seventies, Clapton - the original guitar god, founder of Cream and Derek & the Dominoes, creator of the immortal "Layla" - liked to eat at this quirky American diner in London called the Hard Rock Cafe. The place was this funky old building that used to be a Rolls Royce dealership, and it was run by a couple of young Americans who liked to keep it loose. Founded by Isaac Tigrett and Peter Morton, two enterprising and music-loving Americans, Hard Rock Cafe was an instant classic. You could be yourself at the Hard Rock. It was good food and a good time.

So Clapton got to be friends with the proprietors and asked them to save him a regular table, put up a brass plaque or something. And the young proprietors said, “Why don't we put up your guitar?” They all had a chuckle, and he handed over a guitar, and they slapped it on the wall.

No one thought much more about it. Until a week later, when another guitar arrived (a Gibson Les Paul, by the way). With it was a note from Pete Townshend of The Who which read: "Mine's as good as his. Love, Pete."

The young proprietors put it on the wall. After that, the guitars never stopped coming. Today there are more than 70,000 guitars, drums, pianos, harmonicas, microphones, shirts, pants, scarves, shoes, handwritten lyrics, cars, bikes, a bus and assorted rock memorabilia - by far, the largest, most valuable such collection in the world - on the walls of over 138 Hard Rock Cafes, Hotels and Casinos in 42 countries around the world.

But it all started with the one.

“La Bodega” offers a menu with assorted appetizers either for one person or to share, made of high quality meat, fresh seafood, variety of salads and the soup of the day. The entrées are mainly of highest standards of quality USDA beef, pork porterhouse, the catch of the day, prawns and chicken breast.

“La Bodega”  is a concept that came up after several years of living in San José del Cabo and realizing the need of offering a Mexican contemporary option, with a unique arquitecture and cozy lighting, the customer has the option to enjoy an air-conditioned area or an opened air patio under a marvelous rubber tree surrounded by relaxing music.

“La Bodega” counts with a great selection of domestic and imported liquors and a controlled temperature wine cellar offering wines mainly from south America, México, north America, France, Spain and Italy.
